Clement V immediately promoted ten cardinals,
nine French and one English, (Vita ivta, p. 63, et Baluz. p.
625, &c.) In 1331, the pope refused two candidates
recommended by the king of France, quod xx.
Cardinales, de quibus xvii. de regno Fraciae originem traxisse noscuntur in
memorato collegio existant.
