The Mogul emir distinguishes himself and his
countrymen by the name of Turks, and stigmatizes the race
and nation of Bajazet with the less honorable epithet of
Turkmans. Yet I do not understand how the Ottomans could be
descended from a Turkman sailor; those inland shepherds were
so remote from the sea, and all maritime affairs.
