By Laonicus Chalcocondyles, who survived the
last siege of Constantinople, the account is thus stated,
(l. i. p. 3.) Constantine transplanted his Latins of Italy
to a Greek city of Thrace: they adopted the language and
manners of the natives, who were confounded with them under
