This story (Zosimus, 1. v. [c. 3] p. 290) proves that
the hymeneal rites of antiquity were still practised,
without idolatry, by the Christians of the East; and the
bride was forcibly conducted from the house of her parents
to that of her husband. Our form of marriage requires, with
less delicacy, the express and public consent of a virgin.
